Iran, Mauritania Intent to Cooperate in Defense Field
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Ambassador to Nouakchott Amir Ali Emam Jomeh said to the Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanena Ould Sidi that his country is eying to expand defense cooperation with the West African country.
Emam Jomeh and Sidi emphasized the need to fight terrorism in Sahel.
Emam Jomeh stressed Iran's support for G5 Sahel.
G5 Sahel or G5S is an institutional framework for coordination of regional cooperation in development policies and security matters in west Africa. It was formed on February 16, 2014 in Nouakchott, at a summit of five Sahel countries: Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger.
Last November, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed his country's willingness to further broaden relations with Mauritania in all fields.
