Iranian Researchers Produce Plasma Torch for Disposal of Hazardous Waste
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company produced a plasma torch that is able to produce very high temperatures of about 10,000 degrees Celsius with application in hazardous wastes disposal, energy generation from waste and production of super alloys.
“Plasma torch is one of the plasma generators which is able to produce very high temperature of about 10,000 degrees Celsius. These torches can be used in any industry and process that requires very high temperature,” CEO of the company Alireza Zamani told FNA on Sunday.
“The most important applications of this device are the disposal of hazardous wastes, energy production from wastes, production of super alloys, smelting of refractory materials and coating of ceramics,” he added.
Zamani said that his company’s products have been exported to foreign states, including India, too.
The harmless treatments of medical waste have significantly drawn people’s attention owing to their risks to health-care staff, the public, and the environment.
The traditional thermal technology for processing medical waste may cause indispensable secondary pollution such as dioxin, furan, and heavy metals, and infectious materials that may remain in the solid residual.
Thermal plasma technologies offer advantages of effectively treating medical waste due to its high temperature and energy density, lower pollutant emissions, rapid start-up and shut-down, and smaller size of the installation. These benefits play roles in the treatment of medical waste on-site or off-site, specially when somewhere encounters an abnormally sharp increase in medical waste.
