Lawmaker: Martyr Soleimani Showed Path of Honor

TEHRAN (FNA)- Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani demonstrated that resistance, national solidarity and reliance on internal power are the honor of the country, while compromise and reliance on the West would lead to nowhere, a lawmaker said.

“General Soleimani proved that resistance is the only path to honor and that compromise with bullying powers will get the country nowhere,” Ali Asghar Annabestani said on Saturday.

“General Soleimani was a symbol of altruism, kindness, valor, resistance, intellect, and piety,” Annabestani said, adding that he was a hero of the Muslim world who devoted his life to the people.

“He was the hero of victory over Arrogance and despite all the money spent by the US in the region, he did not let them achieve any of their mischievous goals,” the lawmaker noted.

In relevant remarks on Saturday, Iranian Defense Minister of Defense Brigadier General Amir Hatami said that nations in Asia, Europe and the United States owe their lives to the sacrifices of Iran’s top anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, stressing that he was a hero who shattered all US calculations in region.

“Europe, Asia, and the United States owe their life to the bravery and sacrifices of martyr Lieutenant General Soleimani,” Amir Hatami wrote in a note on the occasion of the first anniversary of General Soleimani’s assassination by the US, adding that the top commander defeated all calculations of the US in West Asia.

“The fact is that ISIL would not be eliminated in the region because the Americans had brought these terrorist groups to the region to stay for many years and to occupy and influence other countries as well,” he went on to say.

“But martyr Soleimani and the loyal and courageous forces of the Resistance were well aware of conspiracies of the Global Arrogance and defeated them. Nations in the region and world will understand that the US resorted to a criminal act in assassinating Iran’s top general in support of ISIL terrorist groups,” the defense minister added.

He emphasized that General Soleimani fought for the spread of peace and security in the region and world.

“Trump thought that if General Soleimani was assassinated, Resistance Movement would stop and this was Trump’s miscalculation,” Hatami said.

“With the assassination of Iran’s prominent nuclear scientist Dr. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh and Lieutenant General Soleimani, the Global Arrogance once again showed its ugly and criminal face to the world and proved its terrorist nature to everyone,” Defense Minister Brigadier General Hatami stressed.

Lieutenant General Soleimani was assassinated in a US drone strike on Baghdad International Airport in Iraq on January 3, 2020.

The airstrike also martyred Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. The two were martyred in an American airstrike that targeted their vehicle on the road to the airport.

Five Iranian and five Iraqi military men were martyred by the missiles fired by the US drone at Baghdad International Airport.

On January 8 and after the funeral ceremony of General Soleimani, the IRGC Aerospace Force started heavy ballistic missile attacks on US Ein Al-Assad airbase in Southwestern Iraq near the border with Syria and a US operated airbase in Erbil in retaliation for the US assassination of General Soleimani.

Ein Al-Assad is an airbase with a 4km runway at 188m altitude from sea levels, which is the main and the largest US airbase in Iraq. Early reports said the radar systems and missile defense shields in Ein Al-Assad failed to operate and intercept the Iranian missiles. Unofficial reports said the US army's central radar systems at Ein Al-Assad had been jammed by electronic warfare.

The second IRGC reprisal attack targeted a US military base near Erbil airport in Iraqi Kurdistan Region in the second leg of "Martyr Soleimani" reprisal operation.

Iraq said the attacks had not taken any toll from its army men stationed at these two bases. The US army had blocked entrance into Ein Al-Assad to everyone, including the Iraqi army.

The IRGC officials said none of the missiles had been intercepted.

Meantime, Iran announced in late June that it had issued arrest warrants for 36 officials of the US and other countries who have been involved in the assassination of the martyred General Soleimani.

"36 individuals who have been involved or ordered the assassination of Hajj Qassem, including the political and military officials of the US and other governments, have been identified and arrest warrants have been issued for them by the judiciary officials and red alerts have also been issued for them via the Interpol," Alqasi Mehr said at the time.

He said that the prosecuted individuals are accused of murder and terrorist action, adding that US President Donald Trump stands at the top of the list and will be prosecuted as soon as he stands down presidency after his term ends.
