Iran to Receive 250,000 Doses of Chinese COVID-19 Vaccine

TEHRAN (FNA)- Spokesman of Iran's Food and Drug Organization (IFDA) Kianoush Jahanpour said that Chinese coronavirus vaccine (Sinopharm) has been licensed for import, adding that 25,000 doses of the vaccine will enter the country in near future.

“In the first phase, 250,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine donated by China will arrive in Iran,” Jahanpour said on Monday, adding, “The issuance of conditional permit means that the producer has to inform Iran of the results of clinical studies in regular intervals.”

He went on to say that the Chinese producer will inform IFDA of non-serious side-effects of the vaccine and also the results of studies on long-term durability.

Earlier on Sunday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that

the cargo of the Chinese vaccine will be transferred to Iran as soon as flight arrangements are made.

In relevant remarks on Sunday, Head of Iran’s Headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam (Khomeini) (HEIKO) Coronavirus Research Team Hassan Jalili said that the country’s production capacity of the first homegrown coronavirus vaccine (COVIRAN Barekat) will reach over 10 million doses per month.

“In the mass production stage the capacity to produce vaccines will be more than 10 million doses per month,” Hassan Jalali said, reiterating that the third phase of vaccine production will be launched in late June 2021.

He stressed that Iran has been able to develop domestic vaccines with the help of its young scientists.
