Envoy Reviews Ways of Unblocking Iran’s Assets in Iraq
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran’s Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi, in his meeting with the Iraqi Finance Minister Ali Abdul-Amir Allawi, discussed ways of releasing Tehran’s funds in Iraq
Masjedi exchanged views with Allawi on unfreezing Iran’s blocked revenues in Iraq.
Allawi said that unblocking the money is among Iraq's priorities and stressed that preliminary steps have been taken in this regard.
Iraq owes nearly six billion dollars to Iran for the export of natural gas and electricity. The money has been stuck in Iraqi banks due to the US illegal sanctions.
In relevant remarks on Saturday, Iran’s Finance Minister Farhad Dejpasand said that his country will receive its frozen revenues in Iraq.
Dejpasnad said that Iran will soon achieve its right in releasing the frozen money in Iraq, adding that the illogical pressures have decreased.
He expressed the hope that the released resources will be spent on facilitating economic activities.
“The Governor of the Central Bank [of Iran] will provide further information in this regard in a documented and accurate manner,” he stressed.
