Official: Step-by-Step Lifting of Sanctions, Any Talks with US Totally Unacceptable
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran will never accept a step by step lifting of sanctions, an informed official told Press TV on Friday, adding that no negotiations with the US are acceptable for Tehran before the complete removal of sanctions as Iran’s policy has not changed on the nuclear deal.
“Iran will hold no negotiations with the US — neither directly nor indirectly — before the lifting of all the sanctions that Washington imposed on the Islamic Republic after its exit from the 2015 nuclear agreement,” the official said, stressing that there has been no change in Iran’s policy towards the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
He went on to say that Iran’s policy has been made clear by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei. In other words, if the US lifts all sanctions against Iran and Iran verifies the measure, then the country will return to its JCPOA commitments.
In relevant remarks on Friday, Deputy Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that his country will stop its retaliatory nuclear measures only once it verifies removal of all sanctions by Washington.
“The lifting of all American sanctions is the first step to revive Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,” Araqchi said at the virtual session of the JCPOA Joint Commission on Friday, adding that, Iran will halt retaliatory steps only if it verifies the removal of sanctions by the US.
He made it clear that there is no need to any renegotiation, stressing, “The United States can return to the agreement and end lawbreaking just in the way that it pulled out of it and imposed illegal sanctions against Iran.”
The session of the JCPOA Joint Commission was held virtually on Friday with presence of the remaining members of the deal - Iran, Russia, China, Britain, Germany and France.
