Haitian Activist: Moise Lapdog of West

TEHRAN (FNA)- A Haitian political activist says Jovenel Moise’s full loyalty to US, Canada and France is the reason he is still in power after completing his term in the presidential office.

Speaking in an interview with FNA, the activist said, “[Jovenel Moise] was imposed on the Haitian people through questionable elections financed to the tune of $33 million by the United States… The United Nations has always been a tool of American imperialism. In 2019, the UN concluded its 15-year military occupation of Haiti, which began after a 2004 US backed coup against Haiti's populist president Jean Bertrand Aristide… . The UN carried out at least four missions, the first one was two years after the 1991 US backed coup against President Aristide. President Aristide was twice overthrown, and both times the UN served as a proxy for the United States.”

FNA withholds activist’s name upon his/her request to maintain activist’s security.

Below is the full text of the interview:

Q: The US uses its sanctions regimes for its political will against over half of the world’s population. Why do you think President Moise, who refuses to leave office after his term, is not sanctioned by the US?

A: President Jovenel Moise whose constitutional term ended on Feb 7, and yet refuses to leave office, was imposed on the Haitian people through questionable elections financed to the tune of $33 million by the United States. The first round was in 2015 and was annulled due to violent protests after widespread fraud was detected. The do-over was in 2016, and Moise received 55 percent of the vote - enough to avoid a second round. The United States continues to support him because he has demonstrated full loyalty to foreign powers like the US, France and Canada, as well as the local business elite which have interest in Haiti's mineral resources, such as gold and copper. Haiti is also a source of cheap sweatshop labor, and there is also a plan to transform the nation into a tourist haven, much like the rest of the Caribbean.

Q: What about the United Nations in Haiti? Do you believe it is playing a role in cooling down the situation?

A: In Haiti, the United Nations has always been a tool of American imperialism. In 2019, the UN concluded its 15-year military occupation of Haiti, which began after a 2004 US backed coup against Haiti's populist president Jean Bertrand Aristide. During that time, the UN helped train a repressive police force with the assistance of military contractor DynCorp and several police forces around the world with gross human rights violations. Prior to that, the UN carried out at least four missions, the first one was two years after the 1991 US backed coup against President Aristide. President Aristide was twice overthrown, and both times the UN served as a proxy for the United States.

Q: How does the US get away with backing Haitian ruler, without internal or international pressure to stop supporting him?

A: There has always been a media blackout on Haiti in the US media in order to allow the lies and propaganda to prevail. The media - which is the propaganda arm of the American Empire, must continue to portray Haiti as poor and irrelevant nation, in order to justify perpetual occupation and interference either through military occupation or so-called humanitarianism.
