Spokesman: Iran Prepared to Help Settle Tajik-Kyrgyz Border Disputes
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said his country is ready to help with the talks between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on border disputes.
“Iran is monitoring the news on border clashes between two brotherly countries of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan which has claimed several deaths and injuries on both sides," Khatibzadeh said in a statement on Friday, stressing Tehran’s readiness for helping the talks move forward for a peaceful result.
"Hailing immediate moves taken by the leaders of both countries to stop clashes, Iran is sure that the bilateral talks would lead to peaceful settlement of border disputes," he added.
13 people were killed and 84 others were injured during the clashes on Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border in recent days that were unprecedented since both countries’ independence from the former Soviet Union (USSR) in 1991.
The two sides have agreed on a ceasefire to prevent more casualties.
