Rouhani Urges Accelerating Implementation of 25-Year Cooperation Agreemen with China
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a phone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping called for expediting putting into effect the 25-year agreement on expansion of strategic cooperation between the two countries.
During the phone conversation on Monday night, President Rouhani expressed Iran's readiness to promote economic cooperation with China in West Asia, and said the cooperation would further strengthen relations between the two countries, specially in the economic and trade areas.
Rouhani also called for close cooperation between the two countries to counter the Cold War and the US-Western coalition against independent countries, including Iran and China.
The Iranian president also thanked China for its assistance to Iran in combating the coronavirus, and expressed the hope that the vaccine needed by Iran would be provided by continuing cooperation.
The Chinese president, for his part, also stressed the need to implement Iran–China 25-year Cooperation Program as soon as possible.
Regarding the cooperation between Iran and China in the fight against coronavirus, including the supply of COVID-19 vaccine, Xi Jinping said, "we understand Iran's urgent need for a vaccine, and we will fulfill our obligations to provide the vaccine required by Iran."
In relevant remarks in March, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh appreciated China for donating 250,000 doses of Chinese COVID-19 vaccine (Sinopharm) to Iran to help the country in the fight against the deadly coronavirus.
"The Chinese measure is symbol of the two nations' friendship," Khatibzadeh tweeted.
He said that both sides share a civilizational bond that will provide good opportunities for them.
"Joint cooperation for combating COVID-19 has proved the significance of the two states," Khatibzadeh added.
Iran’s Food and Drug Organization had already authorized the import and use of the Sinopharm vaccine.
