Iran, Russia Underline Anti-Coronavirus Cooperation
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian and Russian presidents in a phone conversation on Tuesday stressed the need for cooperation in fight against coronavirus and vaccine production.
During the phone talks, Vladimir Putin who has put himself under self-isolation for possibile coronavirus infection, called for coordination to meet his Iranian counterpart Seyed Ebrahim Rayeesi.
He also underscored the need for continued cooperation between the two countries in fighting coronavirus and joint production of Sputnik vaccine.
Rayeesi, for his part, emphasized strong cooperation between Tehran and Moscow in fight against COVID-19 until the virus will be uprooted, and added, “We pursue development and deepening of cooperation between the two countries in all aspects.”
Putin is isolating because of possible exposure to the coronavirus, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.
Mr. Putin canceled a planned trip to Tajikistan this week for a Central Asian security summit, the Kremlin said, describing a phone call that Mr. Putin had with Emomali Rahmon, the Tajik president.
“Vladimir Putin said that in connection with identified cases of the coronavirus in his environment, he must observe self-isolation for a certain period of time,” the statement said.
Mr. Putin said earlier this year that he had been vaccinated with the two-dose regimen of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine but he has continued to be extraordinarily careful in his public appearances.
