Pakistan Sends Naval Fleet of Warships to Iran
TEHRAN (FNA)- Pakistan's naval flotilla of warships berthed in the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas in Persian Gulf on Sunday to consolidate defense ties with Iran.
A Pakistani naval fleet, comprising three warships, cocked in Iran’s Southern port city of Bandar Abbas.
The commander of the Pakistani fleet, which will stay in Bandar Abbas for four days, was welcomed on Sunday morning by the commander of the first naval district of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy.
The docking of the Pakistani ships in the Iranian port city is aimed at strengthening military and diplomatic relations between Tehran and Islamabad.
It is the second visit by a Pakistan naval fleet to Iran this year.
Deputy Commander of the first naval district of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy Captain Qader Vazifeh said that Iran-Pakistan maritime visits will lead to deep and strategic ties between the two neighboring states, expressing hope for more such interactions.
"These maritime interactions definitely show that the regional countries, especially the friendly, brotherly and Muslim countries, can themselves manage the region,” he added.
“There is no need for the presence of trans-regional units in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.”
The naval forces of Iran and Pakistan have in recent years promoted cooperation and staged several joint drills in the Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman.
Back in April, Iranian naval forces and a visiting flotilla of warships from the Pakistan Navy staged joint exercises in the Persian Gulf, which extended to the Strait of Hormuz and the Northern part of the Indian Ocean.
Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani and his Pakistani counterpart Admiral Mohammad Amjad Khan in a meeting in Tehran in August reviewed mutual cooperation, and vowed to broaden bilateral defense relations between the two navies.
Admiral Niazi arrived in Tehran at the official invitation of the Iranian Navy commander.
The two commanders discussed expansion of military relations, deepening ties in the sea, protection of regional security, and using military experiences in undertaking missions and safeguarding the two neighboring country’s national interests on the seas.
Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi made a visit to the Iranian Navy Northern Flotilla.
