Deputy FM: Iran’s Ties with Russia Not Affected by Regional, Int’l Developments

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari said on Wednesday that Iran wants long-lasting relations with Russia, adding that the two countries’ ties are not affected by regional and international developments.

Iran has a special interest in developing relations with the neighboring states, specially Russia, Safari said, addressing a joint trade conference between Iran and Russia in Tehran.

He added that Iran’s view on relations with Russia is long-term and is not influenced by transient regional and international developments.

Iran is prepared to pave the way for facilitating and enhancing trade ties with Russia, Safari said.

Economic relations of both sides see growth, he said, adding that the volume of trade exchanges soared last year.

There has been constructive cooperation between state and private-run representatives in the trade field over the past months, Safari said.

The diplomat referred to the cooperation between Iran and Russia in removing barriers to the development of economic cooperation, and expressed the hope that implementing the agreements would accelerate in various sectors, including energy, transportation, logistics centers, and enhanced trade exchanges.

Iran and Russia had also in April held Trade Conference at the venue of Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Moscow with the participation of representatives of more than 350 Iranian and Russian companies.

Iranian Ambassador to the Russia Kazzem Jalali, Head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) Alireza Peyman-Pak and President of Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergey Katyrin delivered lectures at the conference on the potentials of economic and trade cooperation between Iran and Russia.

Representatives of 70 Iranian and 300 Russian companies in 9 different sectors, including industry, technology, petrochemicals, medicine, food industry, etc., held face-to-face business meetings and negotiated with each other.

A 70-member Iranian delegation traveled to the Russian capital of Moscow last month to boost trade relations and hold economic talks with Russia.
